Fo-Ti (Polygonum multiflorum), also called He shou wu, is a plant native to China, where it continues to be widely grown, It is also grown extensively in Japan and Taiwan. The part of this plant used is its root. Polygonum multiflorum is second only to ginseng in traditional Chinese medicine. It has been used to tread colic, enteritis or the inflammation of the intestines, gout and hemorrhoids.

 

Fo-ti root has been shown to lower cholesterol levels, according to animal and human research, as well as to decrease hardening of the arteries, or arteriosclerosis.
