Ⅵ. What's Chinese Skullcap Root
Baical skullcap (scientific name Scutellaria baicalensis,Scutellariae Baicalensis Radix) is a plant. The root is used to make medicine.
Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, or Chinese skullcap or Huang Qin, has been widely used as a medicinal plant in China for thousands of years, where the preparation from its roots is called Huang-Qin. It has been applied in the treatment of diarrhea, dysentery, hypertension, hemorrhaging, insomnia, inflammation and respiratory infections. Flavones such as baicalin, wogonoside and their aglycones baicalein wogonin are the major bioactive compounds extracted from the root of S. baicalensis. These flavones have been reported to have various pharmacological functions, including anti-cancer, hepatoprotection, antibacterial and antiviral, antioxidant, anticonvulsant and neuroprotective effects.
Herbal Skullcap,Huang Qin is used to treat respiratory infections, hay fever, and fever. It is also used for gastrointestinal (GI) infections, as well as liver problems including viral hepatitis and jaundice.
The active ingredient in Baikal skullcap, baicalin, is used in combination with shung hua (ephedra) to treat upper respiratory tract infections. In combination with other herbs, Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi is used to treat attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), prostate cancer, a lung condition called bronchiolitis, arthritis, and hemorrhoids.
Scutellariae Baicalensis Radix is also sometimes applied to the skin for psoriasis.
Ⅶ. Benefits And Dosage of Chinese Skullcap Root

Ⅷ. What are the side effects of taking Chinese Skullcap Root
When taken by mouth: Radix Scutellariae is possibly safe for most adults when taken for up to 8 weeks. It might cause stomach pain, constipation, vomiting, and stomach upset.
When applied to the skin: There isn't enough reliable information to know if Herbal Skullcap is safe or what the side effects might be.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: There isn't enough reliable information to know if Baikal skullcap is safe to use when pregnant or breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use.
Bleeding disorders. Baikal skullcap might slow blood clotting. In theory, Baikal skullcap might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding in people with bleeding disorders.
Hormone-sensitive condition such as breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, endometriosis, or uterine fibroids: scutellaria root might have the same effects as estrogen. If you have any condition that might be made worse by estrogen, don't use scutellaria root.
Surgery: Radix Scutellariae might slow blood clotting. It might cause extra bleeding during and after surgery. Stop using Baikal skullcap at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery.
